Revisiting some buildings...

So Day 2 in Savannah.  It was raining, but there were a number of things we actually wanted to have a bit more of a look at.  So here they are...

City Market - restaurants and shops on a mall....

This church, is where the feather starts floating down at the beginning of Forrest Gump.  It really is just next to the park in which Forrest tells his life story.  The bench he was sitting on has been removed and put into a museum that you have to pay for.  Ironically, it was exactly the same as the rest of the benches on that square, but Tom Hanks didn't sit on them in front of a camera.  They did the same with the statue of the girl with the bird feeders from "Midnight in the garden of good and evil" - they took a statue out of a cemetary (which it had sat in for over 100 years, just because it had been in a movie, and now they could make money out of you.  Disappointed me a little, but not that much.
The sign is where the bench WAS.
The picture on the right shows the view back from the bench..   Might be more recognisable if you've seen the movie.

The english pub on the right apparently was in a Julia Roberts movie.  I haven't seen it.

This is Sorrell-Weed house, built in 1840. Apparently it's super haunted, like rated as one of the most haunted houses in the country. The story goes, Mr Sorrell was having an affair with the haitian slave (who was Mrs Sorrell's closest confidant). One day Mrs Sorrell couldn't find her, walked into the slaves quarters, where she found Mr Sorrell and the slave in a compromising position. Devastated, she dove off the second floor back balcony to her death. It caused a HUGE scandal.. Not long after, the haitian slave was found hanged in the carriage house. The evidence apparently supported the idea that it was not a suicide (we're talking 1840s here). Apparently "Ghost Hunters" have a recording of the slave's ghost calling out to Francis to help her as she's is being murdered. Our tour guide said that the house changes owners every 3-5 years because they get freaked out.

Forsyth Park.  This fountain was ordered out of a mail-order catalogue.  The city refuses to confirm or deny however that it was a Sears Catalogue.

This is a mock fort built in the 1900s for training for WWI... it was left abandoned until 2004 when it was tarted up into a cafe (that had Starbucks coffee!).  We escaped the rain there for morning tea.

At this point, while taking photos of these plaques, that I aparently upset a homeless woman that was also escaping the rain.  She started ranting and raving at me about needing access to her medication once I sat down to have my donut and coffee.  After about 5 minutes, she started to cool down a bit.  It was then that another man came in, sat directly in front of me and just stared at me.

At this point, I decided it was time to go.  I felt dreadfully uncomfortable.

The perfume gardens...
